When in New Mexico I am required to eat something covered in green chili. It's just a rule I have. This place more than fulfilled my obligation and I loved it. Service was quick, no nonsense and the food was great. House made salsa, chips and queso just the right amount of spicy. I had the combo dinner #3 to sample a little of everything. Not fancy, just tasty. Right next to holiday inn and ramada so bonus for travelers. Yum

Was working in Las Cruces for a week tired a few other Mexican places before I found this one. Hands down, best in Las Cruces. The staff was awesome, salsa was spicy and the dinner rocked! The cheese in the enchilada could have been a bit more melted, but that was it. Went back the next night as well! Next work trip I will be back!

PAY WITH CASH! Stopped in during a cross-country drive. My server was Stephanie. I paid with Amex, kept the receipt, saw may statement and realized the tip had been padded. It took several days to get a manager on the phone. When I finally did, he hung up on me twice saying, "get outta here, man!" Food was adequate, table was sticky and TVs were loud.

To die for!!! The queso is addictive, the salsa is best in the state, and the flautas make your mouth water.....and quite frankly so does the owner's son ;)

The server was polite. However lacked quality control. Guacamole was brown on the plate served! Rice was tasty but cold. And the poor chips were stale. Expected better.

Relatively mediocre restaurant. Not much of a selection of "authentic" Mexican food. Something as simple as a carne asada plate isn't an option. And ordering off of their steak menu doesn't count. Burrito plate doesn't give you a choice of beef, chicken or anything else. No seafood options either. Quick service though and the waiter was pretty friendly. If I ever find myself in Las Cruces, I'll avoid this restaurant.

Holy crap! This place sucks, Gordon Ramsay needs to come and yell at the manager who was a d*ck to us. Food is frozen and nuked to where the caldillo soup had ice chip in it, rice was clumpy, ribeye steak had water underneath. This place sucks!!!

I keep coming back to this cafe over and over. Fresh food, great red and green chile sauces, fresh made salsa to die for. They have all the traditional choices but I think their freah Fajita Salad is the best ever. Fabulous mexican cafe environment. Right off the University freeway exit within walking distance from the Holiday Inn and Ramada Palms.

Staying at a nearby hotel I didn't want to lose my parking spot but also did not want to order pizza as I felt like having something authentic. It was a nice night so we decided to take a stroll over to Chillitos Mexican restaurant. After reading reviews I'm glad that we did. To start they bring chips and salsa which was very good. I ordered a combo plate with Chile relleno, enchilada, and a ground beef taco with rice and beans. The New Mexico red Chile sauce was so good I almost licked the plate clean. My wife had the Sopapilla compuesta which consisted of a deep fried bread similar to a naan or pita, topped with beans and pork, lettuce, tomato. Also with rice and beans. Very good and very fulfilling. My kids had quesadillas and grilled cheese. But their fries were homemade and were really good. Order a side to go! The service from the staff was excellent and this will be a place for us to stop at when we are in town.

We went here because it was close to our hotel. Overall it's a pretty good meal, the burrito came out with beans and rice and smothered in cheese. They were heavy on the hatch peppers. The salsa is worth the trip as well. They actually sell it in jars. The waitresses are a little aloof but overall not bad for a cheap Mexican meal.

Yikes. It was right next door to the Holiday Inn, so you can't beat the convenience. We'd been doing a lot of driving on a cross-southwest trip with the kids and figured it was perfect for folks who didn't want to get back into the car. The place, when you walk in, looks a bit dowdy -- but we don't care about that sort of thing if the food is good. And right off, the salsa was very, very good. But that's where it ended. I ordered a margarita, and I've never tasted anything so gross. I asked the waiter about it, who informed me it was not made with tequila, as they didn't have a liquor license. I guess it was made with... wine and mix? That is NOT a margarita, don't call it that on the menu. I ended up with a glass of the nastiest Cabernet I've ever had. The kids' food was greasy, but fine for kids. They don't care if things are greasy. But my husband and I split a fajita salad. When you think 'fajita', you think grilled meat, peppers and onions, right? This was a bag of supermarket salad undressed and upended on a plate with some raw chopped mushrooms, peppers, a couple red onions and some grilled chicken on top of it. There was a little cup of sour cream and a little cup of brown guacamole. I have to ask, did the person who put that dish together even eat food or understand it? Mystifying. What a strange thing... raw mushrooms and raw bell peppers on a 'fajita salad'? Weird. Anyway, the staff seemed nice, and they replaced my gross margarita and gave my kids refills. It was just that the food was... not good, was all.

Just like another Mexican restaurant I ate at in New Mexico, the menu was Americanized, but the food was Fabulous !!! I had 3 Folded Tacos (shredded beef) they were exactly like some of the best tacos I ever had, when I was a kid. The bottled salsa was SMOKIN' delicious, and I bought a bottle to take home. My friend had Huevos Rancheros, and he loved it.

Worst. Mexican. Food. EVER! You would think that New Mexico would be all over this type of cuisine but you would be wrong if you go here. The ONLY reason I didn't give them one star is that their salsa is some of the best I've ever had. My suggestion: close the restaurant and get the salsa on the market. It's their only saving grace!

Okay but not great! I saw the sign off the Interstate and wanted Mexican so I tried it! All the tables were dirty! Had to wait to have one cleaned. But this was just after the lunch hour so I have to give them a break! The chips are out of a bag but the salsa is great! The Guacamole was watered down and tasted plain! I ordered a chicken burrito with Green Verde sauce over it and was good, not great! I don't like the chicken that has been boiled in water and that's what this tasted like! But this could be because of the region I was in with the Tex Mex style! I would go back don't get me wrong, pretty good for this area of the country! But nothing like San Diego Mexican food!

Pretty much disgusting from the moment you walk in, the place was dirty and unkept but I was starving so I "bucked up." Looks like a place where you order your food and sit down, I was kind of surprised when someone actually showed up to seat us. I ordered a raspberry tea and got something that tasted like soapy dishwater...I nearly vomited in my mouth. I sent the disgusting concoction back & ordered a Dos Equis Amber instead (to ensure I'd get something not tainted). The flauta's I ordered tasted like the dirty oil they were fried in and were cooked way too long (had a burnt taste to them). The waitstaff was real nice but rather than gossiping behind the wall adjacent to the customers, they should consider giving the restaurant a real good scrub-down and making some fresh beverages.

I'm from Texas, but live in San Diego, so I would like to think I know good Mexican food when I eat it. This place was yummy. They had an excellent chicken burrito smothered in green chile sauce. If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Worst. Mexican. Food.

I totally miss this place. This is good divey Mexican food. Their green chile is always fresh and their food is classic cuisine for the area. I recommend checking it out, for sure.

I'm from Texas, but live in San Diego, so I would like to think I know good Mexican food when I eat it. This place was yummy. They had an excellent chicken burrito smothered in green chile sauce. Their rice was really good, too. Their pinto beans tasted canned, but still weren't bad. Cheap and delicious food with friendly service.

Stopped here though town and was pleasantly surprised. I had the special, chicken green chili enchiladas, and they were fantastic. My wife had a combo and she said her chili relleno was the best she had tried. All around a good experience. Worth a stop!

Been eating here for years, at least 4 times a month and the food has always been great. Sometimes the service is a little slow but nice atmosphere..

WOW!!!!!! Super service and the best meal ever!!! I have no words good enough to say how great this place is. Culture, quality and everything you want in a great place to eat. AAAA+++++

Mexican food is a little too salty. Beans tasted canned or days old. Very friendly service, clean restrooms.

Close to our hotel - needed something to feed the kids before bed... Standard Mexican fare. I had the chimichangas. They were ok. Our waitress was very nice and the bathrooms were clean.

Holy crap! This place sucks, Gordon Ramsay needs to come and yell at the manager who was a d*ck to us. Food is frozen and nuked to where the caldillo soup had ice chip in it, rice was clumpy, ribeye steak had water underneath. This place sucks!!!

Walking distance from the Holiday Inn Express. Unfortunately, a large crowd drove long wait times for food. Great house salsa.

Waited 5 minutes to get someone to acknowledge my presence. They never did. A free bathroom stop! Lol

I walked over from the Holiday Inn Express next door. I had been driving all day and needed a drink and some Mexican food badly! I had some nachos which were delicious and a couple of drinks that hit the spot! The salsa is soooo good that they sell it by the jar :-) Everyone was very nice and the manager, Aaron, made me feel right at home. The prices are reasonable and the experience was A+! Thanks guys!!!

The place smelled, service was very slow and the food literally made me throw up in my hotel room. I didn't even finish my meal and it made me sick. Couple of my coworkers had the same experience there.
